Brown Street, Portland, ca. 1875

Contributed by Maine Historic Preservation Commission

Description

Looking north on Brown Street from Congress Street in Portland, around 1875, shows evidence of the tree-lined street with many three-story residences. These gave way when the automobile era took over and the need for parking lots and office buildings won.
